Step-up pick
KitchenAid 9-Speed Hand Mixer (KHM926)
Nine speeds including a slow first gear, plus steel beaters, whisk, dough hook and blending rod.
Our take
On paper the KitchenAid is weaker than the Hamilton Beach: it lists 100 watts. But wattage is a poor guide between brands. What the money buys is range and attachments: a slow first speed for folding in chips and nuts, stainless Turbo Beater II beaters, a pro whisk, a dough hook and a blending rod, all dishwasher-safe. It is a fuller kit that stands in for a couple of small gadgets. It is still a hand mixer: the dough hook manages small batches of yeast dough, but big or stiff doughs belong to a stand mixer or your hands.
Worth knowing
- Ignore watt figures when comparing brands. They are not measured the same way.
- The blending rod can stand in for a small immersion blender.
- One year, full replacement warranty (listed).
Where it fits
This is the step-up pick in Hand mixer: what nine speeds buy. Our verdict there: Save
Save for cookies, cream and cake batter. Spend if you want a slow first speed and the extra attachments.
