Base pick
OXO Brew Conical Burr Coffee Grinder
A real burr grinder with a big hopper. Even enough for drip and French press.
Our take
This grinder uses 40mm stainless conical burrs and offers 15 main settings with micro-steps between them. It remembers your last setting, so one button starts it. The 12-ounce hopper holds a bag of beans and is tinted against light. Compared with a blade grinder it is a large step up in evenness, which is the change most people actually taste. Like most hopper grinders, it holds a little coffee in the chute between uses.
Worth knowing
- Going from a blade grinder to any burr grinder is a bigger jump than going from this one to the Ode.
- Grounds left in the chute go stale. A quick brush keeps the next cup clean.
- Two-year warranty (listed).
Where it fits
This is the base pick in Burr grinder: is a flat burr worth it?. Our verdict there: Save
Save for drip and French press. Spend only if you weigh single doses for pour-over and want light roasts to taste clearer.
The other pick: Fellow Ode Gen 2 Brew Grinder.
