Blender: Ninja or Vitamix?
Ninja's 1000-watt BL610 against the Vitamix 5200. Ice is a tie; thick blends and warranty are not.
Save if you blend smoothies and frozen drinks a few times a week. Spend if you blend daily or make nut butters, soups and thick dips.

Spend if
- You blend every day and want the motor to last.
- You make nut butters, hummus or other thick blends.
- You want to purée hot soup in the jar.
Save if
- Smoothies with ice and frozen drinks are your main use.
- You blend a few times a week at most.
- The blender must live under cabinets less than 21 inches above the counter.
The trade-offs
For crushed ice and fruit smoothies, the Ninja's stacked blades do the job quickly and well. Where it falls behind is with thick blends that need to circulate. Without a tamper or a variable dial, nut butters and dips stall around the blades unless you add liquid.
The Vitamix's price includes seven years of warranty against the Ninja's one. Spread across that time, the gap narrows for someone who blends every day. For someone who blends on Saturdays, it doesn't. Check its height too: the tall container makes it awkward under many cabinets.
Listing checks before you buy
- Warranty length, and whether it covers the motor base and the container.
- Assembled height against the space under your cabinets.
- Container size, and whether a smaller one is available.
- Whether a tamper is in the box.
Red flags
- Peak-watt figures used to compare brands. They are not measured the same way.
- Refurbished units with no warranty stated.
